5G Network Slicing Forecast to 2029
New report from RAN Research

5G Network Slicing Forecast to 2029 is the new research paper from RAN Research and forecasts

Network slicing is emerging from gestation under 5G to surge over 100 times in revenue between 2022 and 2029. Yet the surge will not really begin until 2024 when there is substantial base of 5G Standalone (SA) infrastructure to build on. SA represents the full 5G infrastructure including RAN (Radio Access Network) and Core, which is essential to unleash the full capability of network slices to enable differentiated services catering for multiple user groups and applications sharing the same physical network.

After 2024 5G network slicing growth will take off first in leading economies of North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, including China, while developing countries, especially in Sub Saharan Africa, will pick up towards the end of the decade.

These are conclusions from Network Slicing will unleash full potential of 5G, the latest report and forecast from RAN Research, the wireless analytics arm of Rethink Technology Research. The report predicts that network slicing will accrue additional revenues of $16.1 bn by 2029 over and above what the infrastructures would have earned otherwise.

The forecast shows there are growing opportunities in enterprises, within private networks, and with operators, within public macro networks.  Growth is also shown via the consumer side through the provision of services dedicated to use cases such as UHD video delivery, conferencing and mobile gaming.

Early growth will be concentrated in the enterprise, led by six key sectors that will propel revenues associated with slicing almost from a standing start to $16bn by 2029.

Network slicing is a work in progress in three primary stages from a technological and functional standpoint. These Rethink defines as static, targeted and dynamic slices, which are three categories forecast separately for traffic levels and revenue in this report.

Support for the full range of slicing capabilities will not arrive with 5G SA in a big bang, but will emerge gradually over the era of 5G Advanced from Release 18 onwards, which isscheduled to enter products from late 2023.

This forecast gives you the following information:

  • Accelerated growth from 2024 with enterprise, consumer and MNOs, and the why
  • Which verticals will provide the best return for your investment
  • Which geographical areas should be invested in
  • Potential revenues generated by static, targeted and dynamic slicing
  • Potential revenues from B2B and B2C slicing
